Did You Listen to my Radio Show today?

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

If you did then you know why I asked. Here is the infromation I promised the listeners.

ADAPTIVE CYCLING CENTER

Dennis Sutherlin and Rich Benton have opened the Family Cycling Center at the Winter Garden Station on the West Orange Trail. Named “Adaptive Cycling,” the center provides rentals and sales of bicycles that allow family members with disabilities to ride. The shop has tandems, recumbents and recumbent trikes. Their focus is on “special needs” children who would otherwise never have the opportunity to ride a bike and will enable them to ride with their parents for recreation and therapy. The shop also features high-quality Co-Motion and Trek bikes and can accommodate children as young as 3 years old. Says Dennis:

We are just getting started as a weekend business to hopefully introduce cycling to many families who thought it was never an option for them. Because of the expense of the equipment, we only have limited quantities to start and ask anyone planning to come out to call us ahead of time.We are hoping that everyone’s love for the sport will encourage everyone to spread the word about what we are doing to anyone we might be able to assist. We will be working with all special needs organizations from Cerebral palsy, autism, spinal bifida, visually impaired, brain injury, Rett’s, and Down syndrome to name a few.

We are not out to compete against all the great bike shops in town or to provide typical single bike rentals. Even though we will have the capacity to modify and repair most bicycles, we ask that you please use your local bike shop for parts and service on you regular bikes. We will have emergency supplies like tubes or CO2 if you need it on the weekend.

Contact Dennis or Rich at 407 877 8030 and check out their website at -> www.adaptivecycling.net!

New Bicycle Repair Shop in Moultrie Georgia

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

That’s right, we have set up a Bicycle Repair shop in the small friendly town of Moultrie Georgia. The shop is actually inside the downtown landmark store Books & More.

Books & More has been in Moultrie for nearly 15 years and is run by my good friend and neighbor Jim Soos.

Jim has allowed me to set up a repair shop in the back of the store and we plan to start by reconditioning some bikes and selling them then eventually adding lines of new quality bikes along with more repair services. I have my eye on adding Fuji and Kestrel in the road, mountain and hybrid lines and SE Bikes in the BMX line.

If we can get some land we may also set up a BMX track and be abel to race in Moultrie and Albany.

Currently Books & More Carries the most complete line of new and used books in the Moultrie area and a line of Hobby Products that surpasses many hobby shops. Jim has RC cars, planes and helicopters as well as model kit, electric trains and all sorts of parts and accessories.

Come by and check out the shop and the bikes, I have several now that are in various stages of repair and if someone wishes to get one of these it wouldn’t take long to get any of them in like new condition. I also know that I have a nice Jamis and Trek Mountain bike that are on their way to me, just need some clean up, lube and a few adjustments on the Trek to make it good as new while the Jamis needs a cople of new parts to complete its repair. I also have a couple of good BMX Bikes coming one is a mini 20″ Giant Frantic, and the other is a Diamondback 20″ both are solid but need some minor work.

We will be adding parts and accessories bikes as we find out what sells in the area, we will have tibes for almost all bikes and expect to soon hear from several distributors that we have contacted regarding purchasing product.

In addition I have submitted my application to become a member of the National Bicycle Dealers Association and expect to hear back from them soon.

A radio show is scheduled for our grand opening celebration which is schedeuled for March 1, 2010.

Join me on the radio show by calling 347-324-3835 during the show or going to www.blogtalkradio.com/the-bicycle-nut

Getting Fit a Little at a Time

Monday, January 25th, 2010

So you made a new year’s resolution to lose some weight, to get in shape… and part of the plan is to work out for an hour a day, seven days a week!

No, wait… make that 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

No, better stick to 20 minutes a day, 3 days a week.

Oh, what the heck, why bother doing it at all. You’ll just end up breaking the resolution like 95% of all people do, right? So it’s easier to forget the heartache and frustration, and nip it in the bud, quit before you start.

Well, how about this instead. Don’t make huge goals that you find daunting and you know you won’t achieve… pick goals that you can get your head around and definitely continue to do forever.

A little bit here and a little bit there adds up. If you try to carve out an hour or half an hour, chances are you’ll get busy and miss out on it a few times, then you’ll just stop trying so hard, and it will turn out that you have to revise your plans or cancel them altogether, which will probably feel like failure.

But what if you do just 5 minutes, a few times a day? That will add up to the same amount of workout time, but it will be very easy to keep it up because it doesn’t feel like it’s taking any time at all.

Maybe every time you get up to grab a coffee, you do 20 squats. And while you’re waiting in line, you do calf raises. And when you’re washing dishes, you do leg lifts.

Sitting at your desk, you do some side stretches or virtual rows, or use a paperweight to do some bicep curls. And while you talk on the phone, you stand up and do some lunges.

Then maybe instead of taking the elevator all the time, you walk if it’s four flights of stairs or less. And you walk to the store instead of driving if you’re not buying too much stuff that you won’t be able to carry it.

By the end of the week, you’ll probably have done more exercise than you would have if you had forced yourself to work out for a certain period of time each day, and not been able to keep the schedule.

You won’t break into a sweat with all your mini workouts, which some people say is key to getting the benefits of exercise, but it is arguable that this type of regular and consistent movement has a huge benefit for your body… and your mind, because you’ll feel happier and more in shape just by the act of stretching, let alone doing the tougher moves.

So don’t let a busy schedule stop you from being in shape. Do what you can every day, and keep yourself fit a bit at a time.

You Can Use a Diet Club to market Your Weight Loss Product

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

It seems that, everywhere you look, everyone is trying to lose
weight. If you are in a network marketing company that has a
weight loss product line, you have a huge, hot, and hungry market
that you can sell to.

One of the easiest marketing strategies that you can implement is
starting a diet club in your town. Here are tips to get your diet
club started off right.

1. Host a diet club in your home. If you cannot do it, one of
your friends, family members, or colleagues may be willing to be
the host, especially when you offer them free samples of your
network marketing’s company’s weight loss product.

2. The host will need to invite six or more people to your diet
club. The invitations can look something like this:

“Your Dieting Days are Over!”

The problem with diets is that, whenever you go on a diet,
eventually you have to get off the diet. What usually happens?
The weight returns.

*Drink a shake. Lose weight! Eat a cookie. Lose weight! Try these
and other fun and easy ways to lose weight!

*Never be hungry! (that’s better than willpower!)

*Enjoy great tasting cookies between meals!

*Lose weight and keep it off!

Come to our diet club kick off! Meet new friends, bring your
favorite dish and recipe, and lose weight while snacking with
us!

Fun! Healthy! Plus it all tastes so good!

3. Purchase a scale so that you will have one for the official
“weigh-in”.

4. Plan to have your diet club meet on the same day and time
every week. Every member will need to weigh in each week. The
member who loses the most weight will get to keep the special
“Weight Loss Trophy” for the week. You will need to remind them
to bring it back for the next group meeting’s winner. When you do
it like this, you will only need to purchase one trophy.

5. The member that loses the least amount of weight or gains the
most gets a booby prize. This can be anything, such as an
embarrassing poster they have to put on their refrigerator for
the week. Get creative! Whoever gets the booby prize will need to
bring it back to the next meeting so that the new winner can
receive it.

6. After the weigh-in, trophy, and booby prize awards, give your
diet club members a tip or two about proper eating and dieting.
Share with them how your weight loss product can help them meet
their goals.

7. Lastly, socialize! Share recipes, give out cookies, shakes, or
whatever weight loss product your network marketing company
promotes. Dig into the delicious dishes that members bring.
Overall, just enjoy the fellowship and then repeat next week!

That’s it! This is all it takes to start your own diet club in
your hometown. Your members will appreciate your efforts, and
it’s highly likely you will get lots of orders for your weight
loss products! So, get going with your first diet club today!

Are You Dieting and Exercising and Feeling Worn Out?

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

For some people being on a diet means being tired and lethargic. It’s times like these that some people may be more likely to reach for chips, chocolate or soda. However, these types of foods are absorbed so quickly by the body that it causes your body to think that it has run out of fuel soon after eating them and it’s not long before you begin to crave more of these snacks again. Often these foods offer a quick rush of energy; however they don’t help the body deal with the cause of energy deprivation.

The key, therefore, in dealing with the lack of energy that many people experience when they are dieting is to provide the body with all of the right elements needed to support the body and give it the energy that it needs.

Exercising For Energy

Surprisingly as it might seem, exercise helps to give the body energy by providing you with more stamina for your activities. Additionally, the increased blood flow to your brain which exercising provides helps you to relieve stress and fatigue.

Additionally, exercise also:

- Burns fat
- Helps your body deal with stress
- Lowers Cholesterol
- Lowers high blood pressure
- Increases your energy level
- Reduces your chances of cancer and heart disease

Even simple exercise such as walking is beneficial. A 1995 study indicates that just walking twice around a suburban block a few times per week is enough to make a significant difference in your life. However, exercise which increases the heart rate such as hiking, skiing, swimming, jogging, and bicycling should also be included in your routine.

Eating For Energy

Because of the reduced food intake during a diet, many people experience a lack of energy. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. Long lasting energy can be achieved through careful selection of the right foods. To maintain your energy during your diet, try to eat 3 well-balanced and nutritious meals a day which include the following:

- Wholegrain cereals, brown rice and oats
- Fresh vegetables including broccoli, zucchini, cabbage, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and beans
- Fresh fruit
- Soy foods
- Fresh herbs including mint, basil, dill, thyme, and parsley
- Fish, particularly oily fish such as Salmon, Mackerel and Sardines
- Lean meats and poultry
- Nuts and seeds including a small amount of almonds, walnuts sunflower and sesame seeds
- Sea vegetables including wakame, nori and arame which can be purchased at your local health food store

Additionally, taking a supplement which contains Vitamin B helps the body to turn food into energy and to metabolize properly.

Sleeping For Energy

Getting a good night’s sleep each night is also a way to increase your energy level. Deep, restful sleep helps your body to recover from your activities and revitalize it for the next day. A lack of sleep on the other hand interferes with your mental abilities including your memory and drastically depletes your energy level. If you have trouble sleeping check out a few natural herbal sedatives such as Valerian, Passion Flower and Hops to get you back on track.
